Here's where someone is going to disagree with you a bit. I think that Leo got the award for this film because it was an epic undertaking making the film... it took ages to make it.... Leo's performance in this film was adequate but not Oscar-worthy IMO. I think Leo won the award because he is so well-connected in Hollywood and it was "his turn." I believe that if we were to put basically any reasonably good actor into this role that the film would be the same. I often say two things
Every DiCaprio film would be a little bit better if it was a Matt Damon film
Leo's films are good in spite of him not because of him
The only exception I can think of would be Blood Diamond as I thought he made that movie what it was. His other works are good like Catch me if you can and of course What's eating Gilbert Grape but a vast majority of the movies he is in have massive budgets, great directors, and plenty of fantastic co-stars.
The Revenant to me was a 6/10 film but I have to admit I did enjoy the part where the bear beats the crap out of him.
It's good to hear another point of view, and yours is totally acceptable because I understand you completely. Even though I thought the film was extraordinary in every way, I understand what you mean when you mention the actor's work. Although, if it were down to connections, I think he would have won an Oscar a long time ago. In my opinion, he deserves it.
It's true that we might have seen these performances from another actor, and perhaps the impact would have been greater. I don't know, but maybe you're absolutely right.
I appreciated you giving me your opinion, because that's what my reviews are about: listening to others and talking a little about the production. Greetings, my friend, and thanks for visiting.
P.S.: It was also one of my favorite parts, or perhaps one of the best scenes in the movie 😁
