Otra de las películas que me he demorado en ver. Siendo la ganadora del Oscar a mejor película del 2021, tenía unas ciertas expectativas. El resultado lo detallo abajo. Se estrenó el 2021, siendo su directora Sian Heder.

Another of the films that I have delayed seeing. Being the 2021 Best Picture Oscar winner, I had certain expectations. The result is detailed below. It was released in 2021, being its director Sian Heder.

Sinopsis: Ruby Rossi es una joven que vive con su familia, todos dedicados a la pesca. Ella es una CODA(child of deaf adult), es la única oyente de su familia de sordos, teniendo que trabajar con ellos como intérprete y apoyo principal para diversos momentos en que se la necesita. Este estilo de vida entrara en conflicto cuando Ruby decide seguir su pasión por cantar y buscar obtener una beca que la aleje de su familia.

Synopsis: Ruby Rossi is a young woman who lives with her family, all dedicated to fishing. She is a CODA (child of deaf adult), she is the only hearing member of her deaf family, having to work with them as an interpreter and main support for various times when she is needed. This lifestyle comes into conflict when Ruby decides to follow her passion for singing and pursue a scholarship that will take her away from her family.

Investigando un poco, me enteré que esta película es un remake de la película francesa La familia Bélier del 2014, no he podido verla, pero basándome en el trailer hay demasiadas similitudes. Se nos muestra la vida diaria de Ruby, que al ser en varios sentidos un sostén para su familia, especialmente en la comunicación, no ha podido desarrollarse en otros aspectos, en especial el que le gusta que es el canto. Esta dependencia es lo que genera los conflictos en toda la película, hasta su resolución final. También tiene ciertos trazos de romance y comedia.

Doing a little research, I learned that this film is a remake of the 2014 French film The Bélier Family, I have not been able to see it, but based on the trailer there are too many similarities. We are shown the daily life of Ruby, who being in several ways a breadwinner for her family, especially in communication, has not been able to develop in other aspects, especially the one she likes which is singing. This dependence is what generates the conflicts throughout the film, until its final resolution. It also has certain traces of romance and comedy.

Si bien la historia es entretenida, emocional y te genera optimismo; acaba siendo un tanto plana, con poca tensión. Creo que la duración es excesiva. Por otra lado la música acompaña de buena manera, pero no es el foco.

While the story is entertaining, emotional and generates optimism, it ends up being somewhat flat, with little tension. I think the length is excessive. On the other hand, the music is a good accompaniment, but it is not the focus.

Un punto positivo es la actuación especialmente de la familia Rossi, entre ellas destacó al hermano mayor, interpretado por Daniel Durant. Logran transmitir bien las emociones de los personajes. Los aspectos técnicos como fotografía o edición están bien, pero no destacan en particular.

A positive point is the acting, especially of the Rossi family, among them the eldest brother, played by Daniel Durant. They manage to convey the emotions of the characters well. The technical aspects such as photography and editing are fine, but do not stand out in particular.

En general es una buena película que muestra a una familia adaptándose a los cambios, y cómo sobrellevan sus problemas; sin embargo, llega a ser un tanto lineal.

Overall it is a good film that shows a family adapting to changes, and how they cope with their problems; however, it becomes somewhat linear.
