Mission Raniganj The Great Bharat Rescue (2023)

I just finished watching this movie and I thought I really have to share my thoughts about it because it was so enjoyable, emotional and intriguing, all at the same time. A true heroic movie, this movie doesn't only have to do with the acting but the storyline is so mind blowing. It's the story about a compassionate leader with a faith like a rock and hope unlimited.

I searched on the internet and I realised that the movie was a real life story, I was was so intrigued. Mission Raniganj is based on the true story of Jaswant Singh Gill, a brave Indian mining engineer who led a rescue operation in 1989 at the Raniganj coalfields in West Bengal, India.

THE PLOT

The film opens in the coal-rich town of Raniganj, where dozens of miners work underground in dangerous conditions. One day, during their daily mining routines, a sudden and massive flooding occurs due to the breaching of an abandoned, water-filled coal seam. The mine gets filled with water trapping 65 miners deep underground.
Chaos erupts on the surface as their families gather in fear and other officials panic. The government is unsure how to handle the situation, the deeper the miners are trapped, the lower their chances of survival become.

In the middle of everything, a man named Jaswant Singh Gill (played by Akshay Kumar)who is an honest and highly skilled engineer who proposes a risky but innovative plan which is to lower a steel rescue capsule (a specially designed steel cylinder) into a narrow borewell to individually pull the miners out. His plan is initially dismissed as too dangerous and even crazy since that was the first time that kind of rescue plan was heard.

However, the brave man, Gill insists and he pushed against bureaucratic leaders, skeptical politicians and timid administrators. He personally oversees the dangerous drilling of the borewell and even volunteers to be lowered down himself putting his life at risk to save others.

Perhaps,the trapped miners inside the flooded mine struggled with fear, hunger and creeping threat of death as water levels rise and oxygen reduces. Meanwhile, tension builds on the surface as every moment becomes a matter of life and death.

Finally, after days of effort, Jaswant is lowered into the mine inside the capsule, the specially designed steel cylinder. One by one, he helped rescue all 65 miners in a mission that lasts hours and tests the limits of physical endurance, scarce time and mental strength but at the long run, the mission rescue the miner was successful and everyone were back to their families, to their homes and loved ones with the rescuer Gill alive too.

The heroic effort of Gill was celebrated throughout out the country for his efforts, faith and sacrifices even when time was limited, he kept everyone's hope alive.

REVIEWS AND RATINGS

The movie was a very interesting one with a bit of comedy and melodrama, however the impact of the overall film left me crying and so emotional.
Mission Raniganj is a tribute to bravery, integrity, and human endurance. It is a film that makes you pause and reflect on the value of life, on the cost of apathy, and on the heroism that often goes unrecognized.

The actors and producers really did a great job putting this up together, I really love every single part of the movie. I see the movie more than just a movie but a call to action to honour our workers, to fix our broken systems, and to celebrate those who rise above fear to serve humanity. If you believe in the strength of the human spirit, this is a film you must watch, I highly recommend this movie to everyone.

I will be rating this movie 9 out of 10 for me, everything was just on point.
