Movie Review: Another Simple Favour (2025)

Hello movie lovers 🤗, I hope we have been having a great week, so I decide to see this movie after a lot of hyping from my friend, I just finished seeing this action-comedy thriller movie 😂yes this movie has the combination of both. It shows mystery, dark comedy, and glamour of riches. The movie is an entertaining drama that doesn’t try to be too deep yet delivers enough twists and suspense to keep you entertained from start to finish, it reflects the cost of friendship, love and family deep secrets.

This movie "Another Simple Favour" was released this year 2025 starring Anna Kendrick as Stephanie Smothers and Blake Lively as Emily Nelson as the main characters of the movie. I got to know that this movie is a stylish continuation of "A Simple Favour" produced in 2018 as this movie has the background story of these two friends, Stephanie and Emily. This is a story about complicated, messy, emotional, ride-or-die female friendships and bonds that are equal parts of love and war. It also touches on self-identity, power, deception, and the dangerous games women sometimes have to play to survive in a world ruled by men and manipulation.

PLOT

This movie started with the scene of Stephanie a semi-famous vlogger having a life video in a house arrest situation where she was explaining that she wasn't the one that killed Emily's husband and then she started narrating how the whole drama started, then the scene changed to few days ago when she was packing her son's (Smooch) bags who will be going for a school camp for few days and she was also late for her reading at the Book Nook, so she dropped her son at the school's meeting point and headed for her reading. Stephanie Smothers has been trying to live a quiet life in peace after the madness caused by her former friend Emily Nelson who is now imprisoned for killing and her podcast which lead to the death of a man. She decided to write and produce a true-crime book about the story of her friend Emily naming her the faceless blonde in the book but surprisingly, during the reading of her book, her friend Emily showed up with an invitation to her wedding as the maid-of-honour 😂. That was really insane because Emily was supposed to be in the prison and seeing her standing boldly, beautifully and unapologetic before many people and inviting a friend as her maid of honour is unexplainable, something looks fishy.

However out of curiosity, Stephanie accepted the invitation to know how Emily managed to get out of the prison and it's getting married to a mysterious, wealthy Italian businessman with ties to high fashion and international crime, he is called Dante. Stephanie traveled to Italy with a heart partly excited and partly terrified.

After getting to Italy where the wedding is arranged to take place, the glamorous setting becomes a breeding ground for deception. Emily claims she had left her criminal past behind and is ready for a clean start but when one of the wedding guests Sean, Emily's ex-husband ends up dead in a suspicious accident, Stephanie begins to suspect that Emily is up to her old tricks again.

As Stephanie investigates, she discovers that Emily has a twin sister Charity who was declared to be dead by Emily's Aunt Lyinda who delivered the twins and stole one of the babies telling their mother that the baby died at birth. Lyinda took the child named Charity and nurtured her as her own weapon for destroying other people but Charity grew up mentally disturbed and a lesbian addicted to seeing an being with her twin sister. So in Charity's obsession, she decided to kill one after the other every man around Emily her sister both her ex-husband and her new husband at first by the biding of her Aunt Lyinda who had a selfish monetary reason to get from the Dante's family which was because she got to know that Dante was gay with a guy partner called Matteo and wanted to blackmail both Emily and Dante for $20 million dollars as her retirement plan but Charity however, was doing it because of the sexual connection she has with her sister Emily.

Meanwhile, Stephanie is dragged deeper into the chaos. She finds herself navigating police interrogations, secret villas and family kidnapping in Italy. Her once-innocent instincts as a mommy blogger are tested as she uncovers a deadly conspiracy involving hidden identities, fake deaths and betrayals from unexpected people. Emily on her own part, walks the line between friend and enemy. Despite her danger, she still seems to care about Stephanie in her own twisted way. The two women find themselves once again entangled in a toxic friendship, confessions, and unexpected loyalty while they look for a way to bring themselves out of the mess and live their normal lives again.

REVIEWS AND RATINGS

I will actually celebrate the acting of all the characters in this movie, they really did well in communicating the plot of the movie, I will give it to the producers for a work well done. However, the naked scenes, homosexualism and lesbianism that was included in the movie was an eyesore, I don't know why a little kid could boldly use the f-word repeatedly and be in the scene when a woman was kissing a woman. All these things build up ungodly and unnecessary thoughts and actions in the society and I would have appreciated it if all these were not included.

Nevertheless, I would say that "Another Simple Favour" was worth seeing and I will give the movie a ratting of 6 out of 10.
