CineTv Contest #135 - BirdBox (2018) || Movie Review
Happy mother's day in arrears to all amazing mothers. This week's cinetvcontest is to review a movie about mothers.
Mothers are special beings and their love is far reaching. Sometimes they can seem like they are being too much, pressuring and demanding but all these stem from a place of love.
The movie I'm about to review is titled Bird box. This movie is a horror thriller film. I'm a horror movie fan and as such this movie was ideal. Most importantly, this movie reflects the tough choices a mother has to make on a daily basis to survive and protect her kids frim danger while fending for their daily needs.
Plot
Bird box begins with Sandra Bullock as Malorie giving strict warnings to two kids, a boy and a girl in a deserted island. As the movie progressed, Malorie is seen rowing a boat down a river with her two kids and all were on blindfolds because they did not want to look.
Five years earlier, a pregnant Malorie and her sister Jessica witnessed something scary at the hospital Malorie visited for her ante-natal care. There was something out there making people commit suicide and while trying to escape from it, Malorie and Jessica had a car accident and right before her eyes, Malorie watched her sister commit suicide.
Heavily pregnant and in pain, Malorie was rescued by a man named Tom. They both ran into a home to avoid being killed as many people were running wild on the streets with suicidal tendencies. Malorie and Tom were not the only ones who sought refuge in that house. They met other people there too who were hiding from the plague.
Soon, they had to learn to live without seeing the outside world as looking would get them killed. Another pregnant woman named Olympia was rescued and it happened that both she and Malorie went into labour at the same time. But a tragedy from one of them led to the deaths of many in the house leaving only Malorie, Tom and the two babies.
They learnt tover time to echo- locate and use their senses to understand their environment. They lived peacefully until they were attacked by some mentally deranged people who wanted to force them to look. Tom sacrificed himself to save his family allowing Malorie and the kids escape.
I'm the end, Malorie found a safe haven for her and the kids but it was a rollercoaster ride and she almost them. She fought hell and high water just to keep her kids safe.
What I learnt from this movie?
A mother's love can be ferocious especially when it seems like her kids would be harmed. A mother can climb the highest mountain just to keep her kids safe and that is truly amazing.
Watching the movie, I felt Malorie was too strict on her kids but later, I realised that all she ever did was for the safety of her kids. She loved them so much that she was willing to lay her life down just for her kids to be safe.
A mother's love is everything.
Most Memorable scene
The one scene that I liked and that stuck with me was the part were the rowboat capsized along a rapid on the river and her kids were lost in the water. Malorie fought waves and high current just to save her kids. She even accepted Olympia's daughter as her own and raised them together equally. She fought to give them a safe space and that's what motherhood is all about.
What I liked about the movie.
I really liked everything about the movie. The thrill was high even more than the horror. I enjoyed the feel of the emotions displayed by Malorie. Even when she didn't want to connect to the kids, her motherly intuition and affection would not let her.
As a mother, there's a innate tendency to care and protect our children from harm and it was expressed a lot in this movie. It was worth my time.
This movie is getting an 8/10 stars from me. Do try seeing this movie if you are yet to do so.
