CineTv Contest #141 - She's The Man (2006) || Movie Review
I am not a huge fan of movies that are not thrilling or action-packed. I love movies that would keep me on my toes or at the edge of my seat.
But then sometimes, I would want to watch a movie that would just help me relax. I could be feeling stressed out and just need a good laugh and maybe sleep afterwards.
Not that I don't enjoy them, I love good relaxing movies but maybe not as much as my favorite genre “Horror” 🙂🙂🙂 but at least I do sometimes get something from them. They help me sleep and if the movie is really good, I can manage to keep my eyes open till I am done watching.
Movies like that are more like high school movies for me. The likes of “High School Musicals”, “Mean Girls”, "Bring It On” and many more.
Though I must confess I did enjoy these movies when I saw them years back. Though I don't know if I would enjoy them like I did. Maybe I will find time to see some of these movies again.
The Movie I would be making a review on is titled;
SHE'S THE MAN
I can still remember a lot about this movie despite the fact that it was a long time since I last saw it. It was loosely inspired by William Shakespeare's play, Twelfth Night.
Movie Plot
“She's The Man” is a 2006 movie which follows the story of Viola Hastings (Amanda Bynes), a talented player in the girl's soccer team in her school.
After the girl's soccer team was cut probably due to school budgets. She approaches the coach of the soccer team and asks that she and her girls be allowed to try out for the boy's team which the coach rebuffs and tells her it is impossible since girls are not as fast and strong as boys.
She decided to take matters into her own hands and prove she can try out for the boy's soccer team as a girl after the coach rejected the idea.
When her fraternal twin brother, Sebastian Hastings (James Kirk) who recently got transferred to a boarding school after being expelled from his former school for skipping classes decided to continue In his ways and skip school to go play with his band in London, she saw an opportunity to pretend to resume as her brother in order to join the boys soccer team in his new school.
She felt since no one knows what her brother looks like, it would be easy to pretend to be a man with no one noticing.
She convinced her friends Kia (Amanda Crew) and Yvonne (Jessica Lucas) and they in turn helped her convince her other friend and Hairstylist, Paul Antonio (Jonathan Sadowski) to help with her disguise and give other tips on how to “act” like a man.
What I Liked About The Movie
Like most movies where people have to pretend to be what they are not, I find this movie very funny and I also love the fact that she immediately found out that pretending to be a man isn't as easy as she thought.
Scenes I Found Hilarious
Voila was paired as a roommate with the captain of the boy's team, Duke Orsino (Channing Tatum) in her brother's new school and that was the beginning of her challenges.
Having to explain what she was doing with tampons or not being able to take a shower with the rest of the boys in the locker room, to having to deal with how boys think of ladies in the school. It was a lot of challenge for her.
But do you think she was able to pull it off? Of course she did but in the end, like every secret, it finally came out. I loved the fact that she was accepted still despite the stunts she pulled pretending to be a guy.
I recommend seeing this movie. It's not only packed with laughter but also very relaxing.
I give the movie a rating of 7 out of 10.
Thank you for reading.

This is one of those old movies my husband has refused to delete from his hard drive, because of how persistent and determined the girl was. It's an interesting movie.
