Servant (2019-2023) - Episode 1 - Personal Opinion

I'm constantly watching content either looking for that new movie or tv series to spend my free time, when I'm out of work or when I'm not spending time with my family, I love a good Tv Series to I can just let myself emerge into that world created by the writer and get hooked. As The Last of Us season 1 is almost over with just one more episode to air.

I recognize some of the cast from Game of Thrones, For All Mankind, Harry Potter, not all of them were part of the main cast on this productions but are well known for their parts on them.

Honestly I was suppose to watch Smile, the movie, but it was 1 a.m and didnt want to watch that type of movie before going to sleep, I think it would turn out to be a no sleep if I had watch it, so I decided to put on my Gear Vr with my Iphone Xs and give it a try, I had Servant on queue for weeks before this post.

I write this post as an introduction to the series since I'm planning to write about the episodes as a series, since this is a really good story, a horror story, as I'm very impressed with the first three episodes.

Servant is a horror television series that air on November 28, 2019, on the Apple TV+ streaming service. As I mention this was produced by M. Night Shyamalan, who is a master of horror movies but not quite the traditional horror movies where someone gets possessed or there is blood everywhere, as a fact there was almost no blood in Knock at the Cabin.

Represented by Lauren Ambrose, Dorothy Turner is one of the main characters, she is a news reporter who has just returned to work after taking time off to have a baby. They are a young couple who are in a terrible situation as their newborn baby Jericho dies in his sleep and Dorothy has suffer a mental trauma that she cant get over it to the point that they have a surrogate or in simple words a fake baby doll who Dorothy believes is their baby, during this times Sean, her husband, suffers to see his wife going through this. As a grieving couple decides to hire a nanny to help them with the baby, the fake baby. As you start to watch the first episodes you can tell this woman eyes says everything, there are several scenes where she looks possessed and creepy in a very disturbing way.

Sean Turner is presented as a caring and supportive husband, he is played by Toby Kebbell who I have seen in other series like For Mankind, as a role model husband he is trying to keep his family together after the tragedy but he is also suffering in silence as he cant get over the idea that they have a fake baby at home just to try to overcome his wife trauma, this destroys him at knight, it looks like Sean also tries to use alcohol as a relief as he is constantly drinking red wine during the series. He is a skilled chef who tries to escape his grief cooking, creating elaborate dishes that he hopes will bring comfort to his wife, every dinner is like been serve by a very expensive restaurant, to keep the show going he accepts to hire a nanny to help his wife with the "baby", the baby he knows doesn't exist and just torture him as a reminder that his son is dead. BTW the baby you see in the picture is the fake baby that he has to constantly tolerate, watching his wife caring the doll like its alive when she is the only one who thinks so living in a parallel world. He must love very much his wife, I can only imagine how happy they were together before the incident for him to stay with her through all this, not everybody does that, not everybody can tolerate living as a prisoner and go along with the fake reality, only someone who really love can.

Leanne, a mysterious and empty character, I say empty because many times during the first episodes there is almost no emotion from here until she starts to get along with Dorothy, with a past that full of secrets. She is from Wisconsin and what seems to be a religious person but I'm not sure who she wordships, but I guess not God. She is often unpredictable as there are no emotions or response during many situations and she also acts like everything going on at Dorothy house is normal, the fake baby is normal, Dorothy behavior is normal and that makes Sean crazy to the point that he needs to know more about her.

As I keep watching the first three episodes, it is clear that Leanne is not who she appears to be, she looks to have some sort of ability to predict events before they happen as to even sense when someone is coming, she is so smooth, and strange events seem to follow her wherever she goes. Same as Dorothy becomes increasingly attached to Jericho's doll, treating it as if it were a real baby, same case as Dorothy.
