I think James Gunn understood that inorder for the audience to connect to a character the character must be humanised in some way. This is probably the first time we are seeing a superman who can potentially be defeated by others which makes the whole thing more interesting now. There is a stake now other than the usual kryptonite weakness which was getting boring after several reboots.
The camera works were fantastic in this movie but if we compare it with Man of steel then latter will take the trophy for aesthetic cinematography and badass CGI however after 2025 versions success i would say people now prefer a comic accurate superman with a touch of creative freedom to enhance the character here and there. The world needed a more grounded and hopeful superman and I think Gunn delivered it!
Excited to see how Batman soon hehe.
