Good Omens (2019-ongoing)

Love and war between demons and angels are pretty common in movies and TV, as sinful as it sounds. But what about bromance? For those who have seen Crowley and Castiel, the bromance between them would be exciting albeit obvious. And sadly their journey ended. When I thought I was missing one Crowley, Amazon Prime brought in another Crowley, and even though the latter isn't as devious as the former he's still one hell of a demon. The show that I'm talking about is Good Omens. I watched the first season and the second has recently been released. The series only has 6 episodes so it didn't take me long to finish.

Imagine the Vampire King from Twilight and Barty Crouch Jr. banded together to save the world. There might be better references for both of them, but when I was trying to explain to my niece where she had seen them, only Harry Potter and Twilight came to mind. Although the series, Good Omens, started in 2019, the second season was released this year. David Tennant and Michael Sheen are great actors and they have done a brilliant job in their respective characters. The series is an adaptation of a book written by Neil Gaiman and Terry Pratchet and includes other outstanding actors such as John Hamm. The end of the world is near and it's up to a banished angel and a disliked demon to make sure the human race survives the madness that's causing.

It was quite a refreshing experience, watching Good Omens and I say that I have truly enjoyed Crowley (Tennant) and Aziraphale (Sheen), the chemistry between them, the friendship they shared, how they go the extra mile for one another - and even though they're supposed to be enemies, they became the only ones they can count on when in need. They both shared the same goal, to stop Armageddon at all costs and for that, they risked their lives and turned back on the roles they were supposed to be playing. The plot sounds very serious but the whole thing is filled with funny mishaps and hilarious plot twists. While the angel is as good, naive, and overall fuzzy, he sometimes hides things from his demon friend - whereas the demon, even though wreaking small havoc from time to time, loves the mortal world and all its amenities and sometimes manipulates his angel friend so things can go smoothly for them.

I'm a die-hard Supernatural fan and I have watched the first five seasons more times than I can count. Good Omens has been an entirely different experience from that. The two may have some similarities but in absolutely no way that these two are comparable so I won't be doing it either. I have only heard rumors that the second season was a tad disappointing but as far as I can tell, the first season has been marvelous. So, perhaps the first season had raised the viewers' expectations too high and the second season didn't deliver - but this is all conjecture. I'm sure, that if the second season isn't as exciting as the first, it'll not be too far behind.

I'd recommend the series to anyone and everyone - it is so much fun. Who says the apocalypse has to be serious and no funny business involved? Hell, we even cry at times when we're angry. Also, the credits score screams mischief and mishap, it is really a good one and a perfect match for the show. The only downside I could think of is, that the show has ONLY 6 episodes - not enough in my opinion. And a 4-years hiatus in between, I'm not that patient - a year gap between each season is too much for me (the shows that I watch). Anyway, give this show a chance, it'll not disappoint.
