Sunday Movie Challenge, With Peking Duck For Lunch 🥡 #DashOutSunday
Ever been to the cinema to watch more than one movie in one day? Though it's not new to me, it's not an occurring activity. Because we didn't have anything planned last Sunday, we decided to challenge ourselves and see two movies with a lunch in between.
Two movies and lunch being a challenge is an understatement, because we went out the night before and didn't get much rest. That wasn't the only cause though, but I'll get to that later.
The first movie Asterix & Obelix: The Middle Kingdom - based on the comics with the same name - is a family and kids friendly movie with lots of over the top fighting scenes and puns that could've cancelled the movie in certain countries. In spite or maybe because of that, we were entertained throughout the whole movie.
After that, we checked online for restaurants near us and decided on our trusty diner concept Asian Kitchen. Before the first movie I was in the mood for Italian cuisine, but with the time crunch we had and the lingering hunger opted for something more simple though delicious.
We've tried a few of their menu items already, so decided to try their other meals: I went with Nasi Yeung Chow (egg fried rice with shrimp, roasted pork and vegetables) and Joel with the Crispy Peking Duck. The fried rice was what I expected: huge portion with enough pork and veggies, with the distinct umami flavor I craved. Good bang for one's buck. Only downside was that I only got three pieces of shrimp, but can't complain for the 9 Euros cost in Amsterdam.
The Peking duck on the other hand was above expectations: soft, juicy and seasoned well balanced. It's definitely something I might order more often now. There was some miscommunication with the order though, as we asked for noodles instead of white rice and gotten fried rice instead. We didn't send the plate back this time as it was a minor mistake and we knew that we would also enjoy the fried rice. Mistakes happen and it's not like it was an entirely different dish.
But back to the challenge of two movies and lunch, we (meaning I) had trouble keeping the eyes open during the second movie, because of the large portion of food consumed. How did you spend your Sunday? Let me know in the comments below 🤓.
