The Crime genre is one that fascinates a good portion of the population. There is just something about criminals and bad guys that attracts many of us to consume content based on their horrid acts. Maybe it's their odd psyche that intrigues us because these people are definitely not "normal" like the rest of us.
Crime movies get even better when the content being consumed is based on a true story. I just looked up "Crime movies" a few days back and came across "The Good Nurse". After finding out that it was based on a true story, I just could not help but see it.
The Good Nurse is a true crime movie that lasts for two hours. Two hours of true crime can hardly be a bad idea.

Hospitals are a place where some people unfortunately lose their lives due to the negligence of medical practitioners. The nurses and doctors are human so they make mistakes too but sometimes their mistakes can cost patients their lives. Once is a mistake, twice is a coincidence, thrice is a pattern. There is definitely a problem when many patients die under the care of a nurse or doctor.
This is the case of Charles Cullen, who finds himself under the radar of criminal investigators after his trail of dead patients from different hospitals are discovered. After Charlie gets a new position at the Parkfield Memorial Hospital, New Jersey, he becomes friends with another nurse, Amy Loughren, who is oblivious of the suspicion around him. Amy unwillingly gets herself involved with Charles' madness amidst her work life, issues with her kids and serious health problems. After uncovering the truth about her new friend, Amy realizes that she is probably the only one that can stop him.
Will Amy become overwhelmed by the problems she faces? Will she be able to expose Charles? How many more people will Charles Cullen kill before he is stopped?

As a true crime fan, I know of a couple of cases involving shady doctors and nurses who killed many of their patients and went undetected for years. It's sickening to know that some of the people that we trust our lives with can actually abuse that trust. Trust comes with vulnerability and these health professionals are people that we get really vulnerable with. It is in this very helpless state that some doctors or nurses can be very cruel as their victims can hardly fight back. From the many content that I have consumed, the bad ones can easily take the lives of patients and not get in trouble for a long time. This would allow them to take the lives of more people down the line. What a scary thought.
Charles Cullen is a name that I don't think I had heard of before watching this movie. I did some research but it is not enough to know the full story of this killer nurse. Nevertheless, I think that the movie presents an interesting character. On the surface, Cullen seems like a timid and harmless guy who is just misunderstood but later on his dark side starts to really show. It is interesting to see that a serial killer can be walking among other people like a regular person. They can have good relationships with people but still go on to commit their horrible crimes later. These people really know how to hide that monster in them from the public.
Eddie Redmayne, the star from Fantastic Beasts, is the face of the serial killer in this movie. A side-by-side comparison of Eddie in the movie and the real Charles Cullen shows some resemblance. I really liked Eddie's performance as the killer nurse. He is so convincing and very creepy as well. He is someone that you can easy get drawn to and feel sorry for but then he begins to unravel. The psychopath begins to come out and the switch is wonderful. What a performance!

The grey colors make the film have that very gloomy and sad feel. Of course, this minimalist type of theme is necessary for a film about a serial killer not just to make it sad but to make it scary or creepy in a sense.
This film does not come without flaws. The story was good but I feel like the conclusion was just not as good. With all the emotions felt at the beginning and in the middle, I expected a "conclusive" ending, so to say. As the film was rounding up, some of the scenes were being rushed. After slowly building up the story, rushing it at the end threatened to destroy the experience. The eventual capture of the killer nurse was really unsatisfactory to me. There was really no tension in the scenes leading to his arrest. When he was finally captured, there were just vague confessions of his crimes with a few specifics. We were also not given any motive for them. This move failed to answer the bugging question of "why?".

Yes Amy's resilience in the movie is really inspiring. There aren't a lot of people who would go through everything she experienced without having a mental breakdown. A flawed characters but a heroine nonetheless.
