I was dropped this trailer as an ad in a video I was watching. It's official release date was on December 14 so I am not sure if it was the exact day or within the first week that I saw it.

All I knew was that a new Beverlyhills Cop movie was being released soon so I needed to get a refresher of the first three. I am not going to review all three at once because I think that would be doing the movie and those who may be interested in it a dis-service.

Produced by Jerry Bruckheimer and Directed by Martin Brest, this 1984 action comedy starred Eddie Murphy as Axel Foley, a Detroit police officer who's best friend was murdered while visiting him.

Axel has an unconventional way of doing things and seems to take a lot of stuff personally, in that he does not want the help of a partner when it comes to investigating crimes and making arrests. His introduction has him on the back of a delivery truck haggling over the price of cigarettes in an unsanctioned sting. Axles coworkers pull up and a police chase ensues.

Back at the precinct he gets chewed out by his commanding officer and is threatened with losing his job. He then goes home where he discovers his door ajar. He finds out that his old childhood friend has come to visit. They go out for the a while and upon returning home Axle is knocked out and his friend is killed.

Axle begs his commanding officer to allow him to do the investigation but his CO tells him if he even gets an inkling that Axle is investigating the murder of his friend he will be fired.

He then asks for vacation time and heads to Beverly Hills upon being granted time off. He goes to visit another childhood friend and tells her of the death of their mutual friend and asks her about anyone their friend may have been involved with.

From there he gets himself on the radar of the Beverlyhills PD. The commander of the BPD is told about Axle and puts a tail on him to make sure he does not go against orders.

The character, Axle is very observant. clever, and loyal. He also has mad respect for those who wear a badge in that if he causes trouble he will stick up for those he cause trouble to.

Since this is meant to be a review I will not tell you how it ends. You will have to go and see it for yourself to find out what happens and who was involved with the death of his friend.

Eddie was only twenty three when he played this part that rocketed him to instant fame. This movie was great for it's time and still holds some charm. It won the Peoples Choice Award for favorite motion picture and was nominated for Golden Globe For Best Picture and Academy Award For Best Original Screenplay.

This movie has quite a pre-production backstory which can be found here if you are interested in learning more.

Full cast and crew Information can be found here.

All in all it has been more then 20 years since I have seen this movie. I enjoyed it for the most part. I did feel that a lot of the deaths were unnecessary. Aren't the police supposed to arrest the bad guys?

Anyway, if my review has piqued your interest in watching this movie I would love to here your thoughts. Thanks for reading and see you in the next review.

I haven't seen this Eddie Murphy movie. I'm setting it for my to-do list.

Enjoy. Murphy is an excellent actor and pretty darn funny. I am not sure if the laugh he uses in this movie is made up for the Axel character or if this is his real laugh.
