CineTV Contest: Welcome to Raccoon City

Gooood day Ciners and we're in for another wonderful CineTV contest where you can find out more on the official blog announcement Special CineTV Contest #47 - Favorite Movie Reboot and to be honest this wasn't the easiest contest to enter because there have been a broad range of reboots over the years. No one has had more reboots than Spider Man has though surely? oh wait, Batman, Hulk, Thor, Punisher and the list goes on.

It isn't the easist task picking which one is my favourite and there is so many but my mind couldn't go passed the latest Resident Evil reboot, Raccoon City.

Gaming brought to life

Like most in my age category I was at the forefront of peak graphics and gaming back in the 90s I believe it was or very early 00s when Resident Evil was first released. I remember there was such comotion about this game with a lot of people wanting it banned much like Grand Theft Auto.

Many of the sleep overs we had centred around Resident Evil and although the game today is not scary and playing it now is probably more annoying than anything due to the saves. Back in my day, it was peak fear.

First iteration of films

You could not contain the excitement of young high school kids when we found out Resident Evil films were in development and coming out. It was also the period of time where Zombie movies were kind of becoming the genre of the time. Resident Evil the games really got hollywood churning out some good films, although we await World War Z 2.

Although the latest Resident Evil films didn't particularly follow the main game arch they did utilise characters and played heavily on the game story line. It was confusing as shit and the graphics and budget for the films got worse over the years.

What makes it even funnier is the producer cast his own wife as the lead actress so you can really see her skills develop over, well, a long time. None the less it was pretty cool saga that even though you knew another one was coming and would be crap you had to watch it to see how the story ends.

Welcome to Raccoon City

Well, well, well a reboot.... is what went through my mind as I wondered if we would be subjected to the same kind of crap over the past few years. But I just haaaad to watch it. Although I took my sweat ass time because I didn't want to be disappointed once again.

Then the reviews started coming in that the film was really good and followed the actual game story line, I waited still. Then at work someone raised the movie and I thought, right I have to get to it now!

As I sat and watched I didn't think much of it and wasn't expecting much but as the film progressed it got better and better. I even loved how they included some of the puzzles that needed to be completed in the game to progress.

A fantastic adoption and a massive improvement over the past decade of Resident Evil films, I can not wait for the next one and I look forward to smashing down a large bucket of popcorn while I see where we get taken to next.

If only Silent Hill can be remade like this... pwhoa now that was an awesome game!

I have not seen past the first few that came out in the late 90's. I did not like how they went from the live action of the first one to CGI. I'm not sure if it was the second or third one they did that with but the plot seemed to fall apart around that time as well.

Thats true, after that they just became a thing you just watched because you had started it and had to see it through 🤣
