Some kids are lucky enough to have a rosey and blissful childhood, others aren't so lucky. On that note, I present to you "M3GAN". A horror/sci-fi movie directed by Gerard Johnstone. Gerard is known for movies like "Housebound''(horror-comedy) and "Jaquie Brown Diaries"(comedy). These movies come highly recommended, although I've not seen them before.

M3gan is a movie about Cady – a 12 year old– who lost both her parents on a snowy morning making her an instant orphan. Her aunt Gemma is given custody of her for the time being.Gemma being a lady who never planned to have kids of her own, finds it hard to cope with Cady and her trauma and so she introduces Cady to her work in progress robot– M3gan.

M3gan plays her role as Cady's greatest companion. Such an invention would be very appealing to workaholic parents who barely have time for their kids but the fact remains that an AI will always be an AI.

The cast played their roles pretty well. The actor that got my utmost scrutiny was M3gan. I checked every scene she acted with eagle eyes to see if she flops and guess what? She didn't. I wonder how a human can act like a robot for an hour and 42 minutes. That's just genius.

Review

Gemma, a robotics engineer, is cladded with the responsibility of being a parent at the apex of an ongoing project. Prior to this day, she had promised her sister to take care of her niece–Cady– if anything happened and so, she was bound by that promise. One thing I noticed though was that Gemma didn't show any emotions when she heard her sister just passed away. Cady was the one showing all the emotions. Is 'lack of emotions' a robotic engineering thing or Gemma just forgot to show emotions?

Gemma utilised this opportunity to test-run her robot with her niece. M3GAN is designed to be a child's greatest companion and protector. I won't exactly blame Megan for her actions along the way as she was just obeying simple instructions.

There is a proper build-up of suspense. Like every other horror AI movie, we know that the robot would rebel in one way or the other and the viewers are left to find out which angle the rebellion is coming from.

I was attracted to this movie because I saw "horror, sci-fi" as tags while I was skimming through the net. Is it really a horror movie? As a horror movie fanatic, I would say no.

Disclaimer: This is a personal choice because in comparison to the unending list of other horror movies I've seen, it's just not it.

Another thing I'd like to point out is that this movie is rated PG13 but has a 12 year old as one of the lead actors. Is that supposed to happen?

Rating this movie, I would give it a 6/10. The actors were great at their roles but there were other glitches that were very evident to the viewers.

That aside, if you are an AI fanatic or an aspiring robotic engineer, you should really see this movie. You would learn a lot from it.

I just watched the trailer now and I'm definitely adding it to my movie list.

Judging from the trailer - Hmm you must be a horror movies junky Wongi to think M3gan's actions weren't horrific enough for this to be a horror movie.👀😅

Ok"Horror movie junky" sounds like an epic name😅 I should use it more often. The movie is a good watch, it can terrify some people but definitely not me😅😅
